Summer salads, soups, slices and sandwiches can never do without fresh and fragrant herbs, the main role among which is most often played by green parsley. And, if you have not managed to sow the beds with this wonderful crop, we will tell you about how to grow it in the country.

Growing parsley has never been a difficult and costly task, since parsley can be grown on a small plot of land for itself, just by sowing seeds. But, if we are talking about cultivating for sale, then you will have to follow certain technologies and modes, properly plant greenery, take care of it, make a cut in time, and so on. But, today we want to talk simply about the quality of parsley cultivation for ourselves, and not in industrial standards, because we always want to have on the table aromatic and tasty greens that will delight the eye and complement some dishes.

Cultivation and care

Cultivation technology is quite simple, as it is an unpretentious plant. But, if you create him close to ideal conditions, then it will please with a large amount of greenery and a high ripening speed.

Soil and preparation

Prefers parsley places with fertile soil, well-lit, not very blown by drafts. It is advisable to select for this plant those sites in the garden or summer cottage where dill, caraway seeds, cilantro, carrot were not previously grown.

It will be most correct to prepare the landing site in the fall, carefully digging it. In this case, up to 5 kg of humus per square meter should be added to the soil. In the spring, before planting, complex mineral fertilizers are introduced into the soil.

Planting pattern

The best scheme for planting will be rows with a distance of 20 cm from each other, but this scheme may vary slightly depending on the variety and on the methods of cultivation.

How to plant greens

Already in the second half of April, when the soil begins to warm up a little, parsley can be sown. To do this, about 0.5 g of seeds per 1 square meter is taken, they are sown in shallow grooves, up to 1 cm. After that, the seeds are watered and sprinkled with a light layer of soil. To preserve the required amount of moisture in the soil, the sowing area can be covered with a film.

Dry seeds do not germinate in the best way, and therefore, they must be processed before planting. This can be done very simply by soaking for half an hour in warm water and pre-drying before planting to a state of flowability.

Seeds germinate even at a temperature of + 2 ° C, and can withstand frosts to -8 ° C. Germination depends on the correct planting and care, but the plant can get to the cut in a few weeks.

The cut occurs as the greens ripen, and this can continue throughout the season if new greens are sown in time and properly taken care of. First of all, top dressing is recommended several times during the warm season. This can be the introduction of nitrate, about 50 g / 10 m2 and phosphorus-potassium fertilizers into the soil. It should be remembered that saltpeter is most often used in the cultivation of leaf parsley, but phosphorus-potassium fertilizers and their precise application during the growing season are most suitable for root cultivation.

Equally important is the proper watering, which is carried out depending on weather conditions, but without allowing the soil to get too wet. It is desirable to produce it in the morning or evening, so as not to spoil the existing greens in the heat.

In addition, pay attention to weed control, which can not only obscure parsley or take its beneficial substances from the soil, but also tolerate some diseases that negatively affect yield.

Summing up, I want to say that the best greens can be obtained only with proper, timely and completely systematic care. To get larger root crops, the plants are thinned out, sometimes even twice. The first thinning occurs immediately after sprouts of greenery, and a distance of only a few centimeters is left between the plants. The second thinning is carried out 12-15 days after the first, leaving between the plants already up to 7 cm. The early stages of the vegetation of the plant dictate the rules of care for several fertilizing with nitrogen-potassium fertilizers.

You should pay attention to watering, depending on what kind of parsley you are growing. When growing leaf irrigation, systematic ones are needed to nourish greenery. If you are engaged in growing root parsley, then experts recommend focusing on intensive watering at the end of August, when root crops are poured.

Parsley propagation

Reproduction takes place in a seed way, and if you decide to grow a lot of greenery for yourself, or even for planting, you can no longer buy bags of seeds, but prepare the planting material yourself.

Seeds are collected in the second year of vegetation with full ripeness. Parsley is cut and folded by rolls, prepared for drying. After the seeds dry, the plants are threshed. After, the seeds should be additionally dried and removed from their total content all foreign impurities.

Further planting takes place according to all the rules of agricultural technology of this plant, with the desired preplant seed preparation.

Growing parsley at home

Due to the unpretentiousness of the plant, he does not need to create special conditions, spending money on this and his own free time.

The process at home can be started by sowing in boxes of seeds, necessarily in prepared fertile soil, or by planting specially prepared root crops, harvested, for example, during the last harvest. It is at home that you can grow seedlings, so that later you can transfer it to the open ground in a stronger condition, but you need to think about whether it is worth doing if the plant already sprouts under the correct conditions of planting and growing.

It is also possible to grow parsley in a greenhouse or even in hydroponics, but doing it for your own consumption is not very profitable, which means that using these methods, greens are grown only in industrial standards or in joint planting with other herbs.

Thanks to the simplest actions and processes, you can now take up the independent cultivation of parsley in your own garden. Having spent only some time reading our material and preparing the planting, you will be able to provide your family with fresh herbs for the whole year, and perhaps, later, organize a small but very profitable business.
