This is a fairly new plant in Russian flower beds. But thanks to its exceptionally beautiful flowering, it spreads quickly enough. Many people saw it for the first time, they say - how so: leaves of iris, and a lily flower? Yes, that's exactly what she looks like. This is not the only feature. The fruits of belamkanda are also special, in appearance they are most similar to blackberries.

Plant description

The plant can be attributed to low. The leaves reach a height of up to half a meter, but the flowers are quite noticeable, because in diameter they can reach seven centimeters. The flowering period usually takes a month. It starts from the end of July and continues until the beginning of September.

Belamkanda flowers are something special. They do not bloom all at once. One by one. The first flower blooms at noon and blooms for several hours, after which it is twisted into a spiral. The next day, a new flower opens.

The fruit of belamkanda is a box. Ripened boxes open, like flowers, revealing clusters of black shiny seeds, so reminiscent of a blackberry. Seeds on dry peduncles look very nice. Therefore, they are so eagerly cut for dry bouquets. The germination of these beautiful seeds is exceptionally high, so once you plant this plant, you can not worry about its further reproduction. Samosev will provide excellent seedlings for next year.

Chinese Belamkanda, grown from seeds, can bloom in the first year, and maybe in the second. It all depends on the timing of sowing. You can sow in the fall. It is possible in the spring. And it is possible to plant seedlings at the end of February. It is the seedling method that will give flowering plants in the first year.

Growing Features

Belamkanda photophilous. It will grow in partial shade, but, most likely, it will not be possible to see beautiful flowering. Therefore, for landing it is better to choose a sunny place. It does not tolerate stagnation of water. Therefore, you need to plant in prepared soil. Sand, peat, humus is introduced.

Growing Belamkanda

It is especially important that the soil does not stagnate. Autumn stagnation of water at the place of growth will cause the plant to die in winter.

Top dressing

Belamkanda needs constant feeding. In the summer, it is recommended to feed plants twice a month with full mineral fertilizer. During the flowering period, top dressing can be increased up to weekly.

Winter hardiness

Winter hardiness of the plant is not great. It transfers frosts to -15 degrees, to more severe ones - it will most likely die. Belamkanda grows well in pots, so gardeners often dig bushes in the fall and keep houses on windowsills in the winter.
